BLUE SAFARI MIDA CREEK

A unique one-day boat adventure to discover the wonders of the Watamu Marine Park and the Mida Creek mangroves awaits you with Blue Safari Mida Creek.

Watamu Marine Park is a renowned global destination, becoming an unmissable stop for anyone visiting Kenya. This nature reserve, located opposite the resort beaches, offers enchanting scenery with white sand and coral atolls. With over 150 species of coral and a diverse range of tropical fish, it creates a unique reef with stunning colours.

Mida Creek, located south of Watamu, is a wonderful marine inlet about 5 km long. Here you will find a completely different fauna and flora from the surrounding areas, with intricate waterways and one of the largest mangrove ecosystems in the world. The warm, shallow waters of Mida Creek are a haven for many birds of prey, storks, sea turtles and pink flamingos. Sailing among flying birds, intricate canals and mangrove jungles, you will experience an experience of primal and enchanting beauty.

The excursion takes place aboard an exciting glass-bottom boat, fully equipped for snorkeling.

Plan

The day begins with departure from your accommodations at 8.30am, heading towards the beach where the exciting sailing begins. During the journey, you can sunbathe on the wooden roof of the boat. In December and January, you will sail in the open sea, passing the coral reef to spot pods of dolphins. In the other months, your destiny will be Watamu Marine Park, where you can dive and snorkel among a variety of colorful fish.

For those who don’t know how to swim, you can still admire the seabed of the park directly from the boat thanks to its glass bottom.

Next, you will make a stop in the blue waters in front of the Garoda Resort, where natural pools form during low tide. Here you will have the opportunity to snorkel or swim.

You will continue sailing to cross the channels of Mida Creek, exploring the dense mangrove vegetation and observing a wide range of birds, including herons, pink flamingos and birds of prey.

Your last stop will be Waka-Waka Island, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch of coconut rice, octopus gravy, lobster, fresh fish, grilled shrimp, tropical fruit and drinks. Upon request, a meat or vegetarian menu is available.

After lunch, a Giriama tribe will entertain you with performances of traditional dances and songs.

Around 3.00 pm, you will leave the island for the return, with arrival expected around 4.30 pm.
