SECOND DAY OF SAFARI MASAI MARA RESERVE.
We continue in the Masai Mara National Reserve, a full day dedicated to discovering this wonderful Natural Reserve. A Game Drive in the morning and one in the afternoon with a lunch break (picnic) in the Reserve. The return to the Lodge is scheduled for sunset for an aperitif around the fire and dinner. I can assure you that all the photos in my archive would not be enough to describe what you will see and the emotions you will feel, only by living this experience will you be able to understand what I am talking about.
The reserve borders the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, with which it forms a single ecosystem. The reserve is known for its exceptional concentration of fauna and for the famous Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras that takes place in April-May. The most famous icon of the Masai Mara is probably the image of the lion, of which large prides are found; however, all the so-called Big Five are present in the park, although the population of black rhinos is seriously endangered (in 2000, the presence of only 37 specimens was estimated). Hippopotamuses are numerous in the Mara River and the Talek River. Cheetahs are also present, but they too are considered endangered, perhaps also because of the disturbance that tourists cause to their daytime hunting activity.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
THIRD DAY OF SAFARI from the MASAI MARA RESERVE to LAKE NAKURU.
Last day in the Masai Mara Reserve, after breakfast, check-out and we will visit the Masai Village (not included in the fee) we will head towards Lake Nakuru, on a route of 236km in about 4 and a half hours with a lunch stop in the city of NAROK. Arrival directly at our Lodge at FURAHA RESORT around 5:00pm. Check-in, room assignment, relax and dinner.
Dinner and overnight stay.
The National Park (188 km² in size) was established in 1961, around the lake of the same name, essentially to protect the very large colony of pink flamingos that lived here feeding on microcrustaceans and algae. The number of flamingos varies according to the quantity of food, related to the salinity of the water. The land around the lake is marshy, but as you move away from the water, it dries up and becomes forest, dry forest, tree savannah and flat savannah. To the west rises the western escarpment of the Rift Valley. Initially there were waterbucks, impalas, warthogs, baboons, lions and some buffalo and only two old black rhinos.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
FOURTH DAY OF SAFARI From LAKE NAKURU to AMBOSELI PARK.
Wake up early in the morning, breakfast, Check-out and departure for our game drive until 10:30am. After the game drive we will have a busy day, 432 km in 8 hours to reach AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK. A small lunch stop in Nairobi during the transfer and expected arrival at AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK late in the evening and we will go directly to our tented camp NYATI CAMP (where the overnight stay is planned).
Overnight stay is planned in a tent.
NOTE: From Nairobi there is the possibility to continue the safari in private just the two of you with a driver in a minibus not a Jeep. The minibus is made for safaris.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
FIFTH DAY OF SAFARI IN AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK.
We continue in the Amboseli National Park, a full day dedicated to discovering this wonderful Park. A Game Drive in the morning and one in the afternoon with a lunch break (picnic) in the park. The return to the Lodge is scheduled for sunset for an aperitif around the fire and dinner.
The park is part of a larger ecosystem, called the Amboseli Ecosystem, which straddles the Kenya-Tanzania border. The ecosystem, which has an area of approximately 8,000 km², lies at approximately 1,100 m above sea level and is bounded to the south by the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro, and east by the volcanic hills of the Chyulu Hills, to the north by a varied range of hills and to the west and southwest by scattered granite outcrops and ancient volcanoes, the largest of which, Ol Donyo Orok, is 2,400 m above sea level. The climate in the Amboseli region is hot and dry. The national park is located northwest of Kilimanjaro and therefore receives only a fraction of the rainfall that the area to the south receives. Average temperatures vary only slightly throughout the year, between 20 and 30 °C, with mean temperatures around 27 °C and a maximum of 33 °C. Annual rainfall is around 300 mm. There are two rainy seasons, a “short” one between November and December and a “long” one between March and May. Amboseli is well known for its populations of large mammals. In particular, the park is home to over 1,000 specimens of the savannah elephant (Loxodonta africana), which has long been studied. Also important is the presence of large herbivores such as the cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer), the blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), the plains zebra (Equus quagga), the impala (Aepyceros melampus), the Coke’s hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus cokii) and the Masai giraffe (Giraffa tippelskirchi)
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
SIXTH DAY OF SAFARI FROM AMBOSELI PARK AND RETURN TO NAIROBI.
Wake up early in the morning, breakfast, check out and leave the camp at 6.30am. We will suffer for another game drive until about 10.30am then we will leave the park to return to Nairobi.
